Q Club welcomed the Galacticos to Larne for a rearranged league match on Wednesday night. Both teams lined up with strong panels with both teams still having shots at winning the league.
Alastair Wilson got the Greenisland men off to a good start taking out a fine 8 ball finish after Ryan Scott attempted his own break and dish just leaving the black over the pocket. The experienced Bill McIlroy sr. got the Larne men level before the Galacticos took a 2 frame lead thanks to McFaul and Trevor Whiteside. Shout out to Trigger for clearance of the match potting his last red from a snooker via the knuckles and then doubling the black. At half time Q Club were perhaps fortunate going in only 4-3 down after nicking frames 5 and 6 to stay in the match.
The defending champions seemed to go up a gear winning the first 2 frames in the second half, Shaun McAlister rivalling Triggers earlier clearance with a fine one himself against Bill. Credit to Alan Johnston in frame 9 calling a foul on himself with Ali Wilson taking advantage for a 3 frame lead. Ryan Scott responded well for Q Club in frame 10 with a reverse dish and Ian McCalmont grinded out frame 11 in a tense tactical frame. Kenny English levelled the game in frame 12 in another close frame but Ed McDowell brought the Q Club men back down to earth with a classy break and dish to make it 6-7. A close match perhaps fittingly ended with the draw thanks to Alan Johnston taking out a nice 5 ball clearance.
A
result that probably favours the Rockets and Scorpions ahead of a potential
title showdown in the Legion next week.
Galacticos and Q Club will keep a close
eye from the Greenisland club where they play their return match. It should also be a cracker.
