Castle still setting the pace
. Castle lead the way at the top of the City Air Express Carrick & District Pool League table after safely navigating a tricky fixture 9-5 at home to MSC Trojans. D.Irwin starred winning 3/3.
. Spartans trail on frame difference only, after a 10-4 win against stablemates Whitehead Trojans. But the scoreline doesn't tell the whole story as the underdogs looked all set to make it 5-5 with only 4 to play until a juggled last colour gave Spartans a 6-4 lead from where they then kicked on. S.Johnstone, R.Hawkins and K.English all scored hat tricks for the hosts.
. Rockers made it 2 wins from 2 games with a good solid performance at the Cowboys. Roy McMurtry's lads are still looking for their first win after their heroics of last season.
. Well done to Alpha who secured their first point of the season. They trailed 5-7 up in Mallusk against newcomers the Jolly Beggar but wins for M.Kitson and A.Carson levelled the match.
. Jonny Thompson's Scorpions kept within touching distance off the top with a 9-5 home win over A.Lindsay's Teddy Bears.
. A much improved Greenisland team had a big 10-4 win up at Eastway to continue their march up the table. The GIs amazingly had the match all but wrapped up at half time winning every frame in the session at 7-0. Credit to Eastway who won the 2nd session 4-3, but it as too little too late for Tom Larmours men. Joe Patton and Rab McCullough both bagged hat tricks for the visitors.
. Monkstown HM & H are in 3rd position now after a convincing 9-5 win over basement team the Barbarians. The match looked like it was going to be a close one as the first 4 frames were shared, but a superb burst of 7 in a row secured the points for R.Hendersons team with 3 frames still left to play. Both Henderson brothers Paul & Robert scored 2/2. With the consistent A.McMeekin in their ranks this season, expect a good showing from the Monkstown team.

Next week sees a break from League action with the 1st Round of the Knockout Cup
