Spartans eventually overcame a stubborn Barbarians team in an uninspiring match with a 9-5 win, Glen Harrington starred for the Barbars with 3/3. Rockers, who had a bye last week, got their campaign rolling with an 11-3 thrashing of The Warriors. Castle also had a big win, 10-4 away to Whitehead Trojans. Last years surprise package The Cowboys failed to win for the 2nd week in a row as they went down 9-5 at Rab Brown's MSC Trojans. The hosts gave themselves a good platform for victory by leading 5-2 at half time, with new signing Johnny Mackay bagging a hat trick. Harry Warwicks Greenisland team upset the odds with a fine 8-6 win over The Scorpions, helped largely by the winning of the first 5 frames in the match. The GI's new signing Rab McCullough scored 3/3 and they will be a hard team to beat this term. Honours were shared at Carrick GRSC as the Teddy Bears drew 7-7 with Monkstown, the visitors coming from 5-7 down, and newcomers The Jolly Beggar got their first point in an exciting draw at home to Eastway.
