Scorpions Are The Champions

In the closest league season in the history of the Carrick Pool League sponsored by SKC Gaming the top four teams all had a chance of winning the league on the final night.

Scorpions were two points clear going into the final league match and were playing the highest placed team outside the top four.

Galacticos, Rockets and Q Club were hoping for a Scorpions slip up. All they could do was win their matches and keep an eye on the league app for live scoring.

Scorpions' opponents, Trojans took the first two frames of the first half with wins for experienced Joe Patton and before Scorpion hit back with a break and dish and a reverse dish to level up but Trojans went in front again 3-2. Scorpions were feeling the pressure but took the next two frames to lead 4-3 at the interval.

Galacticos were romping to victory over the Tigers and were sitting pretty at the top of the league with only three frames left. Rockets looked like taking all three points too while Q Club were losing hope of glory at 6-1 down.

Trojans took the first 3 frames of the second half to lead 6-4 and the league seemed to be slipping away from the Scorpions. A

Paul Kerr brought the scores back to 6-5. The league app was showing a Galacticos and Rockets had won. Scorpions were in 3rd place with only 3 frames to go.

Jonny Nelson ripped out a reverse dish to draw level at 6-6.

Up stepped Lee Hatchet McIlreevy for the Scorpions and he ripped out a confident finish much to the relief of the rest of his team mates and Chris Carson won the final frame for the Scorpions to claim a not so convincing but highly important 8-6 victory.

Well done to the Scorpions Pool team, Carrick & District Pool League Champions, who hail from the Times Bar on the York Road.

Chris Carson also won the player of the year by winning more frames than any other player in the Carrick and District Pool League. Well done Sir.
