League champions the Greenisland Galacticos
travelled to take on Clare Roberts’ Warrriors , with the match looking like a
standard day at the office. The second half was a
different affair all together with the Warriors winning 4 out of the first 5 to
level the scores up at 6 each, thanks to a hat-trick from Tucker Kidd and a
brace from Derek Baird, but it wasn’t to be as new Northern Ireland B1 Manager
Trevor Whiteside and Chris Carson made sure of the final 2 to record an 8-6
win. Best for the Champions Johnny McKay with a well taken hat-trick.
Over on table 1, League leaders The Swift took
on Hugh McMurtry’s Cowboys. With recent
new signing Marty Goudie continuing his fine form with a well taken hat-trick
and Pete McCaffery with a brace, the league leaders had a match on their hands.
The leaders showed why they are top with an all-round team performance with Dee
Irwin, Andy Arbuthnot and manager Paul Roberts recording braces of their own,
with the point secured by their manager in the last frame for the second time in 2
weeks.
Second placed Scorpions played host to The
Greenisland Working Men’s Club, with the visitors getting off to a flyer
winning the first 3 before the old guard of Colin Rafferty, Raymond Crowe and
manager Johnny Thompson steadied the ship. With the scores 4-3 in favour of the
visitors, the hosts ran out the next 4 to put themselves on the hill, Paul Kerr
made sure of the points to keep them in touch at the top. Best for the hosts
Colin Rafferty 2/2, Paul Kerr 2/3, Johnny Thompson 1/1 and Colin Montgomery 1/1
and for the visitors Andy Mackey 2/2 Rab Brown 2/3.
The Doagh Weapons travelled to Greenisland to
take on Harry Warwick’s Colts, with the teams sharing the first 4 frames before
the Weapons took control, winning the last 3 of the first session. The second half was a carbon copy with Rab
McCullough and Iain Britton completing hat-tricks to take the match 10-4. Best
for the hosts R Croft 1/1
The Teddy Bears played host to The Hitmen
& Her and the result of this match had players inquiring of the committee
if this was a no show result as the Monkstown team recorded a white wash 14-nil,
a first for a visiting team in recent history. Paul Henderson & Andy
McMeekin with fine hat-tricks, Tom McCorry, Robert Henderson, Mark McMeekin and
Sara Greenberg with well taken braces.
The Whitehead Spartans travelled to Rathcoole
to take on Mark Kitson’s Alpha team. The
hosts got off to a great start taking the first 2, but the visitors got going,
taking 4 out of the next 5 for a 4-3 lead at the break. Clinical would be the
word to describe the second half as The
Spartans won all the frames on offer with manager Robert Hawkins recording his
first hat-trick of the season. Not to be
out done, Kenny English completed 1 of his own. Also for the visitors William
Irvine 2/3
In Whitehead, the Trojans played host to
Eastway. The first half was a tight
affair with the hosts leading 4-3 at the break.
The Whitehead lads then took 3 of the first 4 in the second half to put
themselves on the hill, but the Rathcoole lads dug deep, winning the last 3
with R Whiteside completing another well taken hat-trick and manager Davy
Flanigan edging out Trojans manager Tristan Scot Hays in the last for a share
of the points. Best for the hosts Stevie Hamilton 2/2, G Fitzsimmons 2/2 &
Tyler McKee 2/2.
