The 3 Greenisland Club teams all made their way through to the Last 8 of the City Air Express Knock Out Cup with comfortable enough wins. League leaders Galacticos remain unbeaten after an 8-5 win at Andy Lindsays Teddy Bears and GWMSC strolled to an 8-3 home win against Mark Kitsons Alpha. Barbarians took a 5-1 lead against Warriors and got over the line when Rab Brown made it 8-4. For the hosts Michael Lowry and Rab Brown both scored 2/2 and best for the visitors were Stuart Lennon and Glenn Jones on 2/3. The shock result of the round came up in Rathcoole where bottom team Eastway beat Cowboys by 8-6. Swift trailed 1-4 to Trojans but stormed back to take their place in the next round by an 8-5 margin. When Spartans and Scorpions meet it always seems to produce an epic and tonight was no different. It swung one way and then the other with plenty of drama. Spartans led 4-2 and looked to be heading to 5-2 only for Colin Montgomery Sr to pot his last colour off the back cushion at a tight angle into the centre pocket. He went on to sink a difficult black to keep the match very much alive. A quick fire break and dish from Clem Howard and a Colin Rafferty long black put the visitors in charge at 5-4. The next 4 were shared to put Scorpions on the hill at 7-6 and it looked ominous for Spartans when Johnny Nelson was on a finish. But he went in off and Kenny English held his nerve to clear up and take it to a deciding play off frame. It was scrappy but Spartans didn't mind as Michael Wilson potted the final black of the night to send his team into the Last 8 draw.
