This week saw the launch of "A Shared Responsibility", a significant initiative designed to strengthen suicide prevention efforts across Northern Ireland and reinforce the message that preventing suicide is everyone's responsibility.

Representing the Carrickfergus Pool League, sponsored by SKC Gaming NI Ltd, CDPL Vice Chairperson Darren Whiteside attended the launch event and is pictured with Órlaithí Flynn MLA, Chairperson of the All-Party Group on Suicide Prevention, which led the inquiry behind the A Shared Responsibility report.

The report highlights the vital role that communities, organisations, sporting groups, and individuals can play in creating hope, supporting wellbeing, and helping those who may be struggling.

At Carrickfergus Pool League, we know our league is about much more than what happens around the table. It's about friendship, community, and looking out for one another, both on and off the baize.

That is why we are encouraging members and the wider community to attend our safeTALK Suicide Awareness Training next Tuesday evening. This important training opportunity is funded by the Public Health Agency (PHA) through Impact Network NI and will equip participants with the skills to recognise when someone may be struggling, start supportive conversations, and help connect them to the support they need.

You do not need to be a counsellor or mental health professional to make a difference. Sometimes, simply noticing, listening, and being there for someone can be the first step towards getting someone the help they need.

As a league, we are proud to support the principles set out in A Shared Responsibility and to play our part in building a community where nobody feels they have to face difficult times alone.
