Rockets Soar To The Top Of The Table

In week 2 of the SKC Gaming Carrick and District Pool League we had some massive wins and some very close affairs.

Q Club vs Scorpions

A close nip and tuck battle occurred in the Q Club on Tuesday night as two teams with plenty of experience battled it out. Scorpions raced out the gates with a 2-0 start but the Q Club battled back with a 4 frame blitz to guarantee a lead at the interval. The last 2 frame double then made it 4-4 before the next 6 frames were evenly shared to split the points. Scorpion Veteran Gerry McCorry earning the draw by drawing on his years of learning the angles to escape a snooker to pot his last colour and land perfectly on the black.
Alan Johnston excelled for the hosts with 2/2 and for the visitors Chris Carson delivered an excellent hat trick 3/3.

Tigers vs Colts

Colts got off to a flyer in the first set with good wins for Colin Beckonsale, Aaron Watters, Glen Caldwell, Harry Warwick and Keith Armstrong and only John Fulton
and Tom McGurk winning for the hosts. Trailing 5 -2 at half time, team captain Davey Montgomery, John Fulton and Stevie Blair brought the scores level at 5 each. Aaron Watters restored the lead for Colts only for the score to be level once more with a win for Tom McGurk. 6 each, 2 to play. Colts again went ahead 7 6 with a close frame won by Lawrence Armour but team captain Davey Montgomery rescued a draw for the Tigers with a win in the last frame of the night. Spoils were shared and a very enjoyable match in Times bar.

Galacticos vs Bowling Club

The reigning champions were buoyant in their 1st home game of the season.
McFaul, Wallace and Rolston all scored hat tricks while prodigal son Dean McDonagh made an eagerly anticipated return to the league with a quickfire double. Ed McDowell had 2/3 with only a hapless in off on the black costing him a frame.
The score line flattered the Greenisland men with only a touch of inexperience and, perhaps, nerves preventing the visitors from registering a few more frames.
Galacticos have two postponements in the next two weeks as they have three players travelling to France for the World Championships in Albi and one travelling to Tangier for a different World Championship.

Rockets vs Trojans

A solid performance from the Rockets as they soared to a 6-1 at the break, coasting. The match ended with a good 10-4 win to place them firmly on top of the league.

Man of the match;
Andy Arbuthnot - with a brace

Good luck to all players going to the World Pool Championships next week.
