2019 LEAGUE INDIVIDUAL FINAL
Darren Whiteside (Scorpions) 6-4 Gary Wallace (Galacticos)
Many congratulations to Darren Whiteside on retaining the Carrick & District Pool League Individual Title. The Final was a cracking match played in the Times Bar, York Road, Belfast on Monday 8th April.
Darren won the lag for break and went on to take the first
frame with a classy ‘cocked hat’ black. Gary took advantage of a missed last
ball and levelled. Darren was soon 2-1 up and again Gary levelled with a good
finish. Darren was 3-2 up after tactically controlling the frame and soon he
was 4-2 up clearing the table after Gary broke dry. Gary put up a great fight
and levelled again at 4-4 with a reverse dish then a break and dish of his own.
Gary looked to be in control before Darren pulled out a scintillating shot to
remove Gary’s ball (which was blocking the pocket) and pot his own to enable a
go at a tricky finish to put him on the hill at 5-4. Gary broke dry in the next
frame and Darren took out a great 8-ball finish to claim the title.
On his way to the final Darren overcame challenges from Gareth Fears 4-2, Tommy Fleming 4-0, Ed McDowell 4-3, Steven Carson 5-2 and Ali Wilson 5-2 before
playing the formidable Gary Wallace in the final.
