Bay City Bowlers travelled to face The Spartans at Whitehead Rangers Club. The Bowlers started strongly, with Ian McMillan calmly taking the first frame. An in-form Robert Hawkins won the next, but the Bowlers took the lead again through Darren Clifford. Trevor Whiteside levelled the match at 2-2 and this was to be the last time the Bowlers would be in a point scoring position. The visitors took an early lead with a great double on the black from S McWhirter. Colt’s pair A Watters with a Break & Dish & J Patton both winning the next two games. The two game pattern continued with S Simpson & S Pettigrew for the Tigers & C Beckinsale & H Warwick giving the Colts a 4-3 lead at half time.
This pattern continued with S McWhirter & S Simpson for the Tigers the next two games were shared between both teams J Patton & T McGurk with the score 5-6 & at least a bonus point in the bag for the Tigers. Colt’s H Warwick & D Harris took the next two frames. Score sat at 7-6 and it looked like it was going to end in a 7-7 draw as Tigers S Sloan had total control with both bottom pockets covered but gave away two shots after long deliberation. It was all worth the wait as Colts A Watters delivered a wonder shot, clearing both pockets & went on to win the game and match for the Colt’s. This Match was played in a great spirit and fantastic atmosphere in Greenisland Workingmens Club.
