Spartans 11-3 Pirates. Whitehead Spartans entertained the Pirates in this re-arranged League fixture on Wednesday 17th February. It was the visitors who took the opening frame with a good finish from A.Moore. But E.McDowell under pressure from A.Corrigan for a while got control and levelled the match at 1-1. The hosts moved up a gear after that winning 5 on the trot through D.Lowe, K.English, McDowell again, S.Burns and R.Hawkins. They continued their run in the first 2 frames of the 2nd half with McDowell getting his hat trick and D.Lowe making it 2/2. The McMurtry brothers of Roy and Hugh then steadied the Pirates ship with 2 fine finishes. 8-3 now to the Spartans but it wasn't long before the match concluded at 11-3 courtesy of 2 frames from English and 1 from Hawkins. This win keeps the faint Title hopes alive for the Whitehead team, but their next fixture is a "must win" as they entertain John McLean's League leaders the Rockers next Tuesday. What a match that one promises to be.
