Greenislan 6-8 Spartans. The GI's nearly completed a fantastic comeback against the Spartans to earn a point from 3-7 down, only to lose the 14th frame. It all looked so easy for the 3rd placed Spartans as they raced into a 5-0 lead courtesy of E.McDowell, R.Hawkins, S.McWhirter, K.English and D.Lowe. But GI's Captain H.Warwick started the fightback with a gritty win against the in form McDowell. S.Lennon won the final frame of the first session to reduce the arrears to 3 frames. And when G.Burns finished in style against English to make it 3-5, the comeback that Warwick earlier predicted was now a reality. But the visitors rallied to take the next 2 with an 8 ball clearance from Hawkins and a break and dish from McDowell. On the hill now Tommy Maguires men just needed one out of the last 4 frames. GI Captain Warwick outdone D.Lowe and then Lennon broke and dished to bring it back to 5-7. It looked all over for Greenisland when McWhirter potted the black only to see the cueball agonisingly slip into the middle pocket. 6-7 now and a tense final frame was on the cards. W.Morrison went for game from the break and played safe when he ran out of position but Hawkins potted a fine opener crashing into the pack to develop his reds. He duly went on to clear all 8 again to much to the relief of Manager Maguire. Man of the match must go to Warwick though, who led by example winning 3/3 and nearly guiding his side to a draw against the 3rd placed Spartans.
