There was no League programme in the City Air Express Carrick & District Pool League this week as the Knockout Shield Semi Finals took centre stage. Castle entertained The Rockers in a battle of the big guns, the two teams lying 2nd and 1st respectively in the League table. First blood went to Rockers through their Captain J.McClean but a break and run from T.Whiteside and an 8 ball clearance from D.Irwin put the hosts 2-1 ahead in this first to 8 knockout. But Rockersedged ahead 3-2 with wins from Dn.Whiteside and the in form P.Harris. A delightful escape from a snooker to pot the black by Castle's W.Morton levelled the match once again. The all important frame before the interval went Rockers way with another win from Dn.Whiteside. The second half of the match belonged to The Rockers as they claimed their spot in the Final with wins from S.Carson, Dn.Whiteside (3/3) and A.Arbuthnot. R.Butler finished the match of in style with a fine break and run to give a finak score of Castle 4-8 Rockers. These two teams meet again this week in another vital match, this time in the League. Castle simply cannot afford to lose this one if they are to have any chance of retaining their League crown.
The other Semi Final between Spartans and Scorpions was postponed due to the icy winter conditions and is rescheduled for next week.
