Home and Away Cup QF First leg

The Carrick & District Pool League, Sponsored by SKCGaming, got underway last night with the Home and Away Cup Quarter Finals first leg. It was the first match since the Christmas break. This competition is a race to 15 frames over two fixtures of 14 frames.

In our Live Streamed match, the Legion Rockets entertained The Scorpions at Whiteabbey Royal British Legion.

Darren Whiteside put the visitors ahead with some clever tactical play. Andy Arbuthnot took out a great finish to level the scores. Deano Reid put the Rockets ahead with some great positional play. Darren Haddock took out a lovely finish to draw level once more. ‘Gentleman’ Rab Butler put the Rockets ahead and again the Scorpions came back level this time with a decent finish from Paul Kerr. Chris Carson took the next frame to give the Scorpions a 3-4 lead at the interval.

The Rockets (pictured above) were in their new T- shirts, sponsored by Subway. The players and fans were treated to some delicious Subway platters. Eat Fresh at the interval.

Rab Butler levelled the scores after swerving a full ball snooker to pot his last ball and land plumb on the black. Lee McIlreevy made it 4-5 as he ripped out the finest finish of the night. Deano Reid levelled the scores once more and Rab Butler put the Legion Rockets back in front 6-5 with his hat trick. Darren Whiteside levelled the scores again and Lee McIlreevy took the Scorpions to 7-6. Deano Reid took his 3rd win of the night and levelled the scores at 7-7 going into next week’s second leg. It could not have been closer. There was never more than one frame in it and a draw was a fair result.

Bowlers v Colts
It was a very close affair as the Colts visited the Bowlers on a snowy January evening in Carrickfergus.
Max Reilly took the first frame for the Bowlers, answered by Jack Carson and Colin Beckinsdale taking the next two frames for the Colts. The Bowlers replied with Andy Comrie and Ian Reilly snatching the next two frames. Aaron Watters and Jack Carson picked up frames 6 and 7 then the Bowlers equalised thanks to Andy Comrie in frame 8. The Colts took frame 9 and the Bowlers again equalised in frame 10. The next 4 frames were very tense, although the Colts managed to close all four.
MVPs Colts - Jack Carson, Colin Beckinsdale & Andy Galloway with two frames each. Bowlers- - Andy Comrie with two frames.
Final Score Bowlers 5 - Colts 9.
