Scorpions welcomed outgoing champions the Galacticos to the Times and a thrilling match ensued.
Veteran duo Michael Wilson and Darren Whiteside helped themselves to the first two frames with a couple of lovely clearances before Neil McFaul and Aaron Rolston equalised for the unfancied visitors.
But the Scorpions were in the mood as two great clearances from Lee McIlreavey sandwiched a win for Paul Kerr to give the hosts a 5-2 halftime lead.
Mcfaul completed his double to give the visitors hope only for McIlreavey to reaffirm the hosts lead with his hat trick frame.
Paul 'Old Man' Harris took the next for the visitors but the debuting Chris Carson guaranteed the home side a point. The visitors rallied and Shaun McAlister won one to give hope of a draw for the Greenisland men but Carson got the all important eighth frame as the home team and supporters burst into an ear ringing rendition of "We are the champions" during jubilant celebrations. Gary Wallace held his nerve in a raucous atmosphere to give the cup hopefuls from Greenisland an important bonus point.
