The league's opening match took place last night in Whiteabbey Royal British Legion pitting last year's league champions, Doagh Dragons against KO Cup winners
Galacticos.
Galacticos have been busy during the summer and gave debuts
to 3 new players. Aaron Rolston and Ryan Marcus the two young guns from Larne
and the evergreen Ed McDowell.
Galacticos stormed out of the traps taking a seemingly
unassailable 6-0 lead. Rolston drew first blood with a tactical frame. Gary
Wallace stepped up next and took out an excellent clearance in a frame he
had been behind in from the break. Next up Marcus opened his account for his
new team with a pinpoint clean up. Neil McFaul took edged a tactical frame to
keep the Greenisland men flying and McDowell took the fifth to guarantee all of
the new signings were off the mark. Next up was Trevor Whiteside with an
outstanding finish.
6-0 and cruising?
6-0 and cruising?
Kyle "Pool Guy" Kirkwood had different ideas and
took the last frame of the half to give the Doagh men hope.
The second half started and Michael Wilson edged a technical frame against Paul Harris who had just arrived from Whitehouse Working Mens Club. Rumours that he bought his satnav from Trigger are, as yet, unsubstantiated.
Ali "Adjustable Supreme Leg" Wilson took the next and Gareth Fears the 10th and the Doagh men were buzzing.
6-4 and we had a game.
It wasn't to be for the lads from McConnells as "Mr
Steady" Wallace put the Galacticos on the hill and another outstanding
clearance from Whiteside gave the Galacticos the first silverware of the
season.
Massive thanks to WRBL for hosting and special mention for Rab "Gabber" Butler who leveled, brushed and ironed the table to perfection.

We kick off next week in our 25th anniversary season and if
the quality of pool on show last night is anything to go by it will be a
fantastic season.
