LEAGUE WEEK 1 RESULTS

In the first week of the Carrick & District Pool League sponsored by SKC Gaming there were some great matches.

League champions, Doagh Dragons stormed to a 12-2 victory of Cockweasels. Players of the night were: Ali Wilson, Aaron Leslie, Michael Wilson who all had 3 wins from 3 and Craig Laughlin had 2/2.

This year we have implemented a bonus point for reaching 10. The Dragons gained all 4 points (3 for winning and bonus point for reaching 10) and are sitting top of the house after week one.

Galacticos hosted Colts in a local derby in the Greenisland Club. Galacticos raced out of the traps with an excellent clearance by Aaron Rolston followed by frames from Gary Wallace, Ed McDowell and Trevor Whiteside. Harry Warwick pulled one back for the Colts who were sporting a few new players but Shaun McAlister and Rolston took the next two to give the Galacticos a 6-1 half time lead. McAlister completed his double and Ed McDowell finished to ensure three points for last year's runners up. Another fantastic clearance by Rolston meant the Galacticos could start eyeing the bonus point with four frames left. Tucker Kidd and Harry Warwick took the next two to heap the pressure on but Whiteside kept his nerve to deliver that elusive frame to capture all points available. Dove Allen took the last one and the score finished 10-4 Galacticos. Players of the night were Aaron Rolston 3/3 and Harry Warwick 2/2.

The Trojans travelled to Whiteabbey Royal British Legion. The Legion lads came out swinging as Andy McMeekin took the first frame with a great break and dish. Rab McMaw soon made it to 2. Robert Henderson thought he had made it 3 nil but after potting the black he also potted the white gifting a frame to Joe Patton. Trojans went through the gears and turned it around to 2-3 with wins for Andy Arbuthnot and Kenny English. Rab McMaw and Steeky Carson made it 3-4 for Trojans at half time. The Legion had plenty of work ahead of them, and short work they made of it! They took second half 7-0 and finished 10-4 winners. Andy McMeekin and Rab McMaw were the players of the night both winning 3/3.

Times Tigers welcomed Alpha. Debutant Paul Watters won his first game putting Tigers 1 up. John Fulton failed to clear the table leaving Lee McCord a simple black to draw level. Aaron Watters also making his debut left another simple black for Angie Carson, putting Alpha 2-1 up. Stephen Simpson settled the Tigers who went on to lead 5 2 at the break. Shot of the night came in the 10th frame when Alpha’s Angie Carson potted a great black from a snooker. Tigers won 10-4 and received a bonus point. Players of the night were Paul Watters 3 from 3 and Davy Flanagan 2 from 2.

The league’s new boys Planet Bingo hosted Times Scorpions. Stuart McClean, Andy Galloway, Rab Butler and Chris Carson took the first four frames before Scorpions, Johnny Johnston and Darren Whiteside took the next two. Chris Carson was a man alive making it 5-2 at the interval. Scorpions’ Dean Reid and Paul Kerr made it 5-4. Planet Bingo Captain took Boris’ Den, frame ten. Lee McIlreavy brought it back to 6-5. Chris Carson made it to lucky seven to put the Planet Bingo team on the hill. In frame 13 it was unlucky for Paul Roberts as Colin Rafferty brought it back to 7-6 with a captain's performance. Darren Whiteside secured the draw with a solid game. Players of the night were Chris Carson 3/3 and Darren Whiteside 2/2.
